The history of electric cars (1980 - 2022)

The story of electric cars goes back to much older than we think, as the thought of manufacturing a car that runs on an electric motor without relying on regular fuels such as gasoline or diesel began more than 100 years ago.

But the history of electric cars has always been linked to the possibility of inventing a reliable car battery that stores a reasonable amount of electric energy that allows a better vehicle to run. In addition to the great development witnessed by traditional energy sources, which made it more difficult to compete with them over time.

The history of electric cars (1980 - 2022)

The first attempt to produce an electric car dates back to the 1890s, when Thomas Davenport and Scottsman Robert Davidson thought of creating an electric car that was more practical than those based on diesel engines.

Electric cars .. continuous attempts to manufacture

Thomas and Scotsman were the first to use new electric cells or batteries that were invented but were not rechargeable.

Attempts continued until the first battery that could store a significant amount of electricity was invented at the beginning of the twentieth century. But the attempts stopped for more than one reason, such as the outbreak of the First World War, and the increasing dependence on traditional energy sources to move the war machine.

In 2021, the situation of electric cars has become much better, and the idea of a car that does not run on gasoline or diesel has become widely accepted, especially in light of the high rates of pollution globally and the international campaign to reduce it, as well as for other technical reasons related to electric cars themselves.

Electric cars... a solution to the polluting emissions crisis

In a report issued by the International Energy Agency on electric vehicles and their global sales, the agency said that the transportation and logistics sector alone is responsible for more than a quarter of emissions of warm and polluting gases worldwide.

The report also confirmed that the road transport sector is the most used by humans, and has the largest share of the production of these harmful gases, equivalent to 75% of the total amount of emissions issued by the transport sector, and here the role of electric cars emerges as one of the most important possible solutions to eliminate these pollutants.

Electric cars in 2021

At the beginning of 2021, electric cars achieved unprecedented large profits, with the great expansion witnessed by the global market, which was indicated by the figures at the end of 2021, as statistics showed the running of ten million electric cars on the roads around the world, an increase of 3 million cars over 2019, an increase of 43 %.

According to the World of Statistics website, there are six companies that accounted for the majority of electric car sales in 2021, as follows:

  1. the American Tesla car.
  2. the American electric Rivian car.
  3. Chinese Nio cars.
  4. Chinese Xpeng Motors cars.
  5. the American electric Hummer car.
  6. Chinese electric cars BYD.

Electric cars: what does the future look like in 2022?

While Tesla has become the world's most valuable automaker for some time, traditional car manufacturers continue to operate.

On the other hand, electric car companies are waiting for a big future in 2022.

The beginning with Tesla, where the company recently announced, especially, the numbers of deliveries, exceeding all expectations, as the number of deliveries approached about one million cars in 2021, by 936,000 cars. That announcement was enough to raise the value of the stock at the beginning of the new year's trading by more than 50% over 2021.
